"If you're at all like me," said Marian Blume, "you probably think short female haircuts are a big no-no for you. I don't blame you, I thought the same myself until last month."

What caused Marian's change of heart vis-a-vis female short haircuts?

"Well, it all happened on a trip to the mall. There was one of those free styling demos going on that day, only this one was kinda different. They take a shot of you, put it on a computer screen, and match your face up with fashion hair styles from their sample set within minutes. I'm talking a set of hundreds of women's hair styles here. Not stuff from five years ago either. They even had the latest celebrity styles you see on TV," informed Marian.

She continued, "That's not all. Once they've matched up your face with the best style for you, an artist does a quick charcoal sketch of you with that hairdo."

"I couldn't believe it. Actually Was like totally blown away by the sketch he did of me. Sure the computer said short hair was best for me. But I just couldn't believe my eyes. I looked so good with that hairstyle! I showed the sketch to my boyfriend and he just went 'Wow'. That's when I absolutely knew I had to get my hair done that way."

Short female haircuts don't have to be mannish. "I think that's why many women don't give short haircuts a second thought. I mean, most of us (and men too) think long hair when we think female. Very short haircuts look great on petite women and thats about it," said Blume.

Bangs make a big difference to the cut. Long sideswept bangs falling across one eye, and short layers cut to the shape of your head is the ultimate in chic, according to NY stylist Tash Chambers.

Then there's the more daring style which looks great for an oval face. "Get your hair straightened and cut with layers barely longer than earlength. Short multilength bangs along your forehead complete the transformation. Dab a little gel and smoothen at the ends," advised Tash.

Marian knows all about the benefits of short female haircuts now. "I only need to carry a small comb in my purse these days. No hairspray, no gel, no scarves, no bobbypins," she laughed. "Short female haircuts rock!"
