When it comes to natural cures for thinning hair Betty Bradley was all business. After learning about haircuts for thin hair and going with the one that was best for her, she started exploring all her options. Including natural remedies.

"The thing to remember about natural treatments is you'll find all sorts of claims of success," Bradley pointed out. "But as with many natural remedies there is no rigorous scientific testing to back up the claims."

"So it's mostly anecdotal evidence of success from users. But no serious controlled testing that would give you the confidence in the approach being suggested."

"For instance," she went on, "saw palmetto is thought to reduce DHT much like finasteride (Propecia) does since it does have impact on enlarged prostates. And DHT plays a role in hair loss. So it's logical but untested."

Other options you may see being touted as something that helps thinning hair include green tea, zinc, grade seed extract.

For example green tea has catechins which has been shown to help with hair loss. And zinc can inhibit DHT levels.

Again while each of these and others may have properties that are known to affect hair loss - such a blocking DHT, there have been no scientific studies to show these substances actually work.

Then too, it can't hurt to consider hairstyles for thinning hair also?

Obviously you may be of the 'I'll try anything for thin hair once' mindset. And that's fine. Just realize that you may want to temper your enthusiasm for any natural cures for thinning hair. That way if they help great. If not, well you at least tried.
