Medium Length Haircut: Tips From the Experts

Here's Some Winning Hair Styling Tips for Medium Length Hair

Don't want hair that's either too long or too short? Why not try a medium length haircut?

Amber Mareno has been a professional hair stylist for over 15 years now. "I absolutely love my work," she revealed. "Creating new hairdos and new looks still feels more like a hobby than real work to me."

So what are the latest hairstyle trends for 2007 and beyond according to Mareno?

And how about some hair styling tips for medium length hair while we're at it?

"Okay. Well I guess short hair is really in now. But over short hair, a lot of my clients prefer to go with something like a medium long length haircut. Yeah I know that sounds complicated - what I mean is that many women would rather keep their hair looking a little long. As in, they don't want short hair. At the same time, they want to escape all the hassles of that come with caring for long hair."

In such situations, a great medium length haircut strikes just the right balance between length and convenience. According to Amber, there are a lot of good styles to give you a cute medium haircut.

"A medium length haircut should be about shoulder length or shorter ideally," said Mareno. "That way it looks stylish and elegant and doesn't develop the problems that long hair is prone to- like tangles."

Other tips for a haircut for medium length hair?

"Absolutely," smiled Amber. "Get a trim every 8-10 weeks. Taking a half inch off at the ends every now and then is the key to keeping that look fresh."

Know what hair type you have beforehand. For Amber, this is really important as well. "Look, if you have thin hair, obviously the kind of medium length haircut you want to be getting is going to be totally different from what someone with thick bushy hair would require. Likewise for curly and straighthaired types."

A top pick from Mareno for medium length haircut or style of the year?

"Definitely a medium bob," she said. "Right now short bobs are popular but pretty soon, that look is gonna get stale and women will want to go for a bit of length."

Other things to consider about any medium long length haircut to help you when you’re ready for a new look?.

For one remember that the advantage of a medium length haircut is it likely will work with most any hair texture and face shape. Even girls with fine hair find this is a good length option.

But you do want to watch out for blunt cuts. Done wrong it can come off looking blocky, like an Amish haircut. Ugh! So it’s generally wise to layer the bottom ends of your medium length cut. To help you avoid the blunt look.

And if you’ve got darker hair? Consider spicing it up with painted highlights. Especially around your face. Just remember to maintain your look by retouching the highlights every couple of months or so.
