For one, layering is a way of giving definition to too-full hair.

On the other hand, it can also be a way of imparting some thickness to thinner limp hair, especially when well styled with some volumising mousse.

Then too layers can be short or long or medium. That alone affects the look of these hair cuts.

Layers can also be added in front, back, sides and even on top of the head if you like.

Tracey added, "Most of my customers considering a bob hairstyle these days ask for their hair to be done in a layered bob style. A lot of them come armed with layered bob haircut photos to boot. That way, they can describe exactly what style they want in detail and it makes it easier for me to understand the particular bob with layers haircut they want."

Layers can also be used to disguise a too high forehead or a too broad jawline with some inspired scissorwork. It is generally advisable however not to have too many layers in the back as these won't be very easily visible. Adding layers does not mean that styling becomes difficult. All it takes is a blow dryer and some mousse to style a layered bob haircut.
