Help! How should I do a casual hair updo?

Here's The Latest in Casual Updo Hairstyles!

Abigail Pratt was really worried, ”How should I do a casual hair updo? There’s that important presentation coming up at the regional meeting. I don’t really know anything more than a simple ponytail but I have to come up with something.”

As she worried, she flicked through a few pictures in the Cosmo magazine, which had an article with pictures of different updo hairstyles. She noticed pictures of updo hairstyles with flowers, casual updo hairstyles, and prom hair updo’s. Up-dos. Up-dos. Up-dos. With every photo however Abigail was getting increasing worried.

Finally, she built up the courage and phoned her best friend, Ava Vietz.

Ava laughed and said, ”This may come as a surprise to you but updos are the easiest hairstyles to pull off. Instead or wondering how should I do a casual hair updo? I can walk you through these easy steps right on the phone.”

“First,” Ava instructed, “you want to make a ponytail and split the pony part in two. Wind one half clockwise and pin it, then wind the other half counterclockwise and pin it down too.”

Doing this gives you a lovely swirly looking bun sitting on the nape of your neck. Looks sexy too!

And here’s a tip. If you’re finding it difficult to pin fine hair in place, use a lot of product like hairspray or styling mousse. This makes the hair thicker and less slippery, gives it a lot of shimmer too.

Ava added, “Oh and don’t worry too much about washing your hair beforehand. Dirty hair is much easier to pin up into casual updo hairstyles. Sounds kinda yucky I know. But it’s true.”

In fact that’s exactly why salons use hair spray and mousse (to ‘dirty up’ your hair so that it’s easier to clip in place.)

Now for a dress updo or a prom updo, use steamrollers and wind sections of hair around them from root to tip and pin firmly in place. If you have naturally curly hair, then simply wash, apply anti-frizz serum and blow-dry it with a diffuser. Voila! Instant bouncy curls!

Then for really fine haired, whatever the updo, back comb or tease the front section on the forehead from behind to provide volume.

Ava teased, ”So are you still wondering about ‘How should I do a casual hair updo? now?”

Abigail sighed in relief, ”With such good advice, what’s there to worry about? In fact you’ve given me three good beauty salon worthy updo’s I can think about doing right at home. Now I can do that presentation in comfort and style. Thanks so much Ava. You’re a godsend.”
