Why Hot Oil Treatment For Hair Is a Must

Hair on Life Support? Here's What to Do to Revive It

At first glance a hot oil treatment for hair seemed like a crazy choice for Krissy Melnick. The 33 year old office manager for a bustling law firm in Phoenix had what appeared to be extremely healthy tresses.

"Actually, Melnick admitted, "the sun out here is murder on hair. So I follow a hair care program that calls for me to hydrate my hair with an intense oil treatment every couple of weeks."

Her oil of choice? Surprisingly extra virgin olive oil.

"All I do is slip 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil into a small glass bowl and barely warm it in the microwave for like 20 seconds," Krissy explained. "I then work it into my hair, wrap in either saran wrap or a shower cap and leave it in for about 30 minutes. Then I wash it out using a clarifying shampoo. You can't believe how great my hair feels when I'm done."

Clearly her hair looked gorgeous. So it must be working.

Upsides of Oil Treatment

Apply hot oil treatments for hair regularly will help to protect it from the harshness of daily life. Oiling the hair will restore moisture to dry hair while forming a protective layer around the entire strand.

Such a treatment nourishes and coats the cuticle to repair damaged hair.

You may also notice more shine to your hair.

Downsides

Natural oils like olive, coconut or almond oil are harder to shampoo out. It may take several washings to get the volume back. While the commercial oil treatments are treated to avoid that problem.

Now you know the secret behind Krissy's luxurious looking tresses - hot oil treatment for hair.

Today's Hair Care Tip #81

No matter what you’ve heard it’s not possible to fix split ends. Conditioner can help their appearance but getting a slight trim every four to six week is the only way to get rid of split ends.
