Deciding to get in on the latest fashion trends and go from long or medium hair to one of the hairstyles for short hair can be traumatic. In part because it's such a dramatic move. For instance when you're having a bad hair day, or don't have time to lavish on your languishing locks, you definitely cannot simply pull it all back into a pony, braid it or put it into a quick bun as you might if you had long or medium length hair.

And if it is humid and you don't know what to do with your poofy hair you may be stuck with it as is for the day. Especially if you have naturally curly tresses to begin with.

Another thing about short haircuts is that when short hair grows out you will have to watch out for the dreaded triangle head. Don't let that sneak up on you.

Also with shorter styles the shape of the cut matters. And to make short hairstyles feel more feminine keep these ideas in mind.

• It is a must that you get a trim every four to six weeks to maintain the shape. And think soft. Tapered. The idea is generally to avoid blunt lines if you want your hair to look it's best.

• Wash daily to fend off even the slightest hint of the greasy look.

• Use conditioner only as needed. Focusing what you do use where it counts most - on the ends.

• Don't be afraid to use volumizing styling products to amp up the volume. Just spritz it on the roots of your damp mane before switching on the blow dryer.

• And speaking of which too much heat can damage short hair just that much quicker. The idea is to leave your hair damp enough to air dry easily.

• Don't mistakenly assume that hair accessories are just for long hairstyles. You can use cute headbands, wraps and barrettes for short hair cuts too.

• And as long as you're taking the plunge don't forget that short hair is ripe for color experimentation. Bright reds, blonde highlights and so forth can turn your newly shorn locks even more beautiful and sexy in no time.

With so many pluses and options available for short hair, don't you agree this is a must hair style to try out? Besides as my mom used to remind me, it will grow back should you happen to not love your new look. Leaving you with hair that is healthier than what it was before you went under the scissors.
