Things to Remember About Hair Replacement Transplant

Harold Miller had scheduled what he referred to as a hair transplant. Tried of watching the steady retreat of his hair, he finally decided to do something about it.

"Actually," Miller reported, "what is commonly called a hair transplant is really a skin graft. Where patches of skin that happen to contain hair follicles are transplanted to areas that lack them."

"You may undergo the hair replacement transplant process as an office procedure. The selling point being you can avoid any hospital stay."

"Okay, Miller said gruffly, "and while it's billed a minor surgery, as opposed to what brain surgery?, it is still surgery."

"Now the doctor is going to mention donor sites. What those are, are fringe areas with hair on the back or side of your head."

"While recipient sites are the parts of your head that are devoid of hair. That's what will receive the grafts. Get it? And believe it or not you can end up with hundreds if not thousands of recipient sites."

Generally the smaller the graft the more natural the end result. So grafting techniques have down sized from what's referred to as standard grafting to mini and micro grafting. A mini graft might contain 3-12 hairs. a micro graft might have 2.

FUT is short for follicular unit transplantation and produces the most natural looking outcomes.

You see, hair grows in bundles or 1-4 follicles which dermatologists refer to as follicular units. A microscope is required to identify these units - due to the small size you know.

The small size also minimizes scarring and reduces healing time.

Basically if you don't see microscopes in use, the doctor isn't doing FUT.

Anyway those are some terms you're likely to hear when investigating hair replacement transplant.

Today's Hair Care Tip #81

No matter what you’ve heard it’s not possible to fix split ends. Conditioner can help their appearance but getting a slight trim every four to six week is the only way to get rid of split ends.
